The why behind the one-week edit guarantee

One week. That is it. That is all the time that I give myself to edit and deliver all your wedding photos… in one week (with 25 teasers uploaded in 24 hours).

I'll explain how later as that isn’t the important question. First, why?

You're the bride, and this is the biggest day of your life.  The day you and your husband has planned months or maybe years for… your wedding day.  This is seriously important!

You've spent a year, or more, with a shiny ring (aka your precious) on your finger. Twelve months laughing, stressing, crying and planning with your best friend and bridesmaids. Eleven months wondering what the day will be like. Ten months worrying about if that right dress, that looks so fabulous now, will look just as good on the wedding day.  Nine months worried about gaining weight from being stressed. Eight months with a venue reserved or in mind and other wedding vendors contracted...like me. Seven months staring at your engagement photos. Six months with that dress still burning a hole in your closet door and the worries about weight gain have intensified due to that 10lb stress weight gain. Four months looking forward to the meal you'll eat at the reception since you are likely going to starve yourself the days before. Three months with plane tickets and a room booked for the honeymoon. And one nearly sleepless night, before the wedding day beaming with excitement and nerves all at the same time.  Shew...

Not to mention you've also spent a bloody fortune on pulling this day together. You've written deposit checks and security checks, received invoices, receipts, experienced stress, tears and fears.

You've invested a lot physically, mentally, financially and time wise into this day.

Now, imagine this.  I'm the photographer. If I truly respect everything you put into your day then I'm sure the least I can do is make your photos a priority for one whole week after your wedding. So, I gotcha.

Reason #1 for the One-Week Edit: Everything above. You spent months of your time planning your wedding, the least I can do is give you one week of mine to get the photos to you.

Hell yes, it's going to require that I rearrange my schedule and sit for long hours at my computer, but I owe it to you.  You trusted me to capture the memories that tell the story of your day so I believe I am obligated to give you those memories sooner rather than later.

Ok, there is another reason here and I know the other photographers around will get mad at me for this too.  You see I am known for sharing all the little secrets about wedding photography and the competition doesn't like that so let’s give them something else to not like and yell at me for at the next bridal show. The little secret that most photographers don't want people to know: it doesn't take 6-8 weeks to edit wedding photos. No, no no. Us photographers., we are a deadline-driven bunch but not the way you would imagine. Remember that big paper in school? Just like those end of term papers in school, whose due date you knew all semester, but you still waited until the deadline to put in the work, we'll wait until we're under the wire to do that editing.  Let's call it what it is, we can be lazy if we let ourselves get into that habit. I am not going to sit here and lie and say that I didn’t fall into that once upon a time because sadly…I did.  Thankfully, after taking a brief hiatus from photography I came back with a different view of things.  I will not forget that I am not just providing you with great photos of valued memories, I am also here to provide you with the best customer service experience there is.

So the moral of this story, and Reason #2 for the One-Week Edit: regardless of when a photographer says the photos will be ready (4 weeks, 6 weeks, even 4 months later), wedding photos only take a week to edit and it's likely the week right before you received them. So, 1 week, that first week. I have learned that getting the photos done now makes for a cleaner calendar and less stress on my end, too.  I also find I am more creative getting them done right after the wedding while that wedding day is still fresh in my mind.

Last and just as important, Reason #3: I want to ride momentum of the afterglow of the wedding. A week after the wedding, you might not even be back from your honeymoon and you're still basking in the dream of your fairytale wedding day. You're married to the love of your life! Your friends have all posted their cell phone photos of your wedding all over social media but I want your professional wedding photos to arrive into your life while you and everyone in your life are still talking about the wedding, not months later when it feels like opening a yearbook and other friends have had their weddings leaving your wedding nothing more than a distant memory. No, I want you, your friends, family, co-workers and whoever else you share them with to see that you have great photos for your social accounts, while it's today's news, not as a Facebook memory a year later.   That my friend is another reason for the teasers in 24 hours. It all boils down to me having R-E-S-P-E-C-T for you!

Teasers in 24 hours; all the final images in one week. That's my promise to you. Ok, I need to go buy some caffeine now since I have a ticking clock….
